Wilhelmstrasse

A limited competition provided the context within which a theoretical project for a street could be superimposed on the fragments of a previous but ruined street, fragments from the late nineteenth century and the 1960s. As with much in Berlin, provinciality runs alongside experimentation and 20 years after this competition Aire Design are involved in other cities on similar challenges - the resuscitation of urban areas with, " … that most living of human institutions, the street … ", as Joseph Roth put it 70 years ago, at the heart of the matter.

Friedrichstrasse

Emanating from the Wilhelmstrasse competition, a Masterplan for the unification of three buildings, one a fragment, two new build - re-established the historic street volume - with shops, a cultural centre for the deaf, offices apartments and studios. Such projects re-invest the timeless qualities of inner urban living with contemporary needs and desires.
This project received recognition in the form of a Design Award.
