Bywater Millennium Community Masterplan
Aire Design won the competition to develop the second Millennium Community at
Allerton Bywater in West Yorkshire in 1999. Since that time, the practice have
acted as master planners for the mixed-use 30 hectare site, seeking creative
ways to reconcile the many conflicting influences affecting a re-cycled ex-coalfield,
a relatively depressed economic market and the 'joined-up' innovative thinking
underpinning the competition project. Aire Design is also acting as Design Architect
for the initial housing projects and the village centre. Extensive community
engagement was undertaken and the support of the people of Allerton Bywater
gained.
